Engineering Manager, DevEx

Engineering Manager, DevEx Ilir Sela started Slice with the belief that local pizzerias deserve every advantage available to major franchises—without sacrificing their independence. What began with his family’s pizzerias now supports tens of thousands of restaurants with the technology, services, and collective power they need to serve modern customers and build lasting businesses. We build for entrepreneurs who put everything into their shops. They deserve technology that is dependable, intuitive, and capable of creating meaningful economic value. We move with urgency, think from first principles, and measure success by the outcomes we create for pizzerias and their customers. The Challenge to Solve Slice’s DevEx Platform teams build and evolve the internal developer platform, GitOps workflows, Kubernetes infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and developer tooling that power engineering across Slice. We are looking for a highly skilled Engineering Manager to lead the DevEx team, who can help raise the bar for reliability, security, and operational excellence. Management is key; your role is to create the conditions where platform engineers build reusable, high-impact systems that make every engineer at Slice more productive. Our strongest managers: • Focus teams on customer outcomes rather than activity. • Create clarity when the path is uncertain. • Make decisions with incomplete information and adapt quickly. • Stay close to the details without becoming the bottleneck. • Challenge assumptions and look for asymmetric opportunities. • Build trust through candor, consistency, and follow-through. • Take responsibility for outcomes, including when things go wrong. The Role Own developer and business outcomes Partner with engineering leadership to identify developer friction and platform opportunities. Measure success by improved deployment velocity, system reliability, platform adoption, and developer productivity—not just features shipped or tools built. Lead technical direction Guide architecture and technical strategy across our Internal Developer Platform, deployment workflows, and cloud infrastructure. Help the team build reusable patterns, self-service tooling, and strong guardrails that make the right thing the easy thing. You should be comfortable leading teams working with: • Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, and cloud-native architecture. • ArgoCD & GitOps principles for safe, scalable application delivery. • Python for internal tooling, automation, and infrastructure management. • GitHub Actions & CI/CD pipeline automation. • Network architecture, DNS, Cloudflare. • Datadog (dashboards, metrics, logging, tracing, alerting) and Terraform. • Generative AI tools to develop and deploy applications, including agentic applications/services using LLM APIs Build a highly effective team Give platform engineers context, clear decision boundaries, and meaningful ownership. Encourage an automation-first mindset, reducing toil and creating scalable self-service capabilities. Raise execution standards Help the team deliver platform improvements frequently and safely. Standardize workflows, improve observability, and embed operational excellence into everyday development. Develop exceptional people Hire, coach, and retain outstanding platform and software engineers. Provide meaningful ownership, direct feedback, and growth opportunities. Lead across Slice Partner closely with engineering teams to understand pain points and drive platform adoption across the organization through collaboration, clear documentation, and empathy. The Team You will lead engineers on the DevEx Deploy & Run team, collaborating across the US, Canada, UK, and Europe. We value thoughtful asynchronous communication, clear documentation, and high-quality written decisions. The Winning Recipe Strong candidates will bring: • Experience managing high-performing platform engineering teams. • Skilled at project planning/tracking and creation of team roadmaps. • Technical expertise across Kubernetes, GitOps (ArgoCD), CI/CD (GitHub Actions), Python automation, AWS, Terraform, and Datadog. • Proven track record of improving developer experience, deployment reliability, and engineering effectiveness. • A platform mindset: thinking in reusable systems, self-service tooling, and scalable guardrails rather than one-off fixes. • Clear, direct communication across both technical platform teams and product engineering stakeholders. You will be succeeding when: • Deployments become faster, safer, and more reliable across Slice. • Engineers spend less time wrestling with infrastructure and cognitive friction. • Platform capabilities are easily discovered and widely adopted. • High-performing engineers on your team are growing and thriving. Cross-functional partners trust your team to solve critical developer platform challenges The Hiring Process • Application. • 30-minute introductory conversation. • 60-minute conversation with department management. • 60-minute technical interview with future peers and team members. • Offer.
